Google Sheets Integration

Append saved Rooster submissions to a spreadsheet and sheet tab selected during setup.

Attributes

DestinationOne Google spreadsheet and sheet tab selected after Google OAuth.
Eventsubmission.created rows after linked website or hosted form submissions are saved.
ColumnsMetadata columns, submitted-field columns, or both. New submitted fields can add columns dynamically.
AccessGoogle OAuth uses offline access so Rooster can append future submissions after setup.
HealthAppend failures are logged and retried. Revoked access or missing sheets require reconnecting or selecting a valid destination.

Setup

Use the Google Sheets integration when you want saved Rooster submissions appended to a spreadsheet row.

  1. Open Integrations in the dashboard.
  2. Find Google Sheets in Available.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Approve the requested Google OAuth permissions.
  5. Create a new spreadsheet from Rooster or connect an existing Google Sheets URL or spreadsheet ID.
  6. Choose an existing sheet tab or create a new tab.
  7. Choose whether rows include Rooster metadata, submitted fields, or both.
  8. Send a test row from the Google Sheets settings dialog.

After Google Sheets is connected, it appears in your account's connected integrations, but it only receives submissions from websites or hosted forms where you link it.

Link Google Sheets To A Website Or Hosted Form

To send website submissions to Google Sheets:

  1. Open Websites.
  2. Open the website action menu.
  3. Choose Link integration or View integration.
  4. Click Add integration if you are viewing existing links.
  5. Choose Google Sheets from the dropdown.
  6. Review the Google Sheets settings for that website.
  7. Click Link integration.

The website must have a valid connected domain before Google Sheets can be linked.

To send hosted form submissions to Google Sheets:

  1. Open Form builder.
  2. Open the hosted form action menu.
  3. Choose Link integration or View integration.
  4. Click Add integration if you are viewing existing links.
  5. Choose Google Sheets from the dropdown.
  6. Review the Google Sheets settings for that hosted form.
  7. Click Link integration.

The hosted form must be published before Google Sheets can be linked.

Manage Or Remove Google Sheets

Open Integrations, then click Manage Google Sheets to review the connected Google account, create or connect a spreadsheet, choose a sheet tab, adjust column settings, send a test row, reconnect Google, disable delivery, or disconnect Google Sheets from your account.

From a website or hosted form's View integration modal, use the edit icon to change Google Sheets settings only for that source. Use the delete icon to remove Google Sheets from that source only.

Headers And Columns

Rooster preserves existing sheet columns. During setup and delivery, it reads the header row and appends missing headers instead of deleting or reordering columns.

Metadata columns include:

  • Submitted At
  • Submission ID
  • Form
  • Website
  • Source Page
  • Rooster URL

Submitted field columns are generated from saved form field labels or field keys. When Add new submitted fields as columns is enabled, Rooster adds new columns as new fields appear in later submissions. When it is disabled, Rooster only writes to already mapped columns.

Rooster writes cell values in RAW mode by default. Values that begin with spreadsheet formula characters such as =, +, -, or @ are escaped before they are sent to Google Sheets.

Health And Retries

Rows are appended after a submission is saved. A Google Sheets delivery failure does not block the visitor's form submission.

Rooster records delivery attempts, response status codes, response time, short response previews, appended ranges, row numbers, and failure reasons. Retryable failures are scheduled again with backoff. Repeated failures mark the integration unhealthy and can disable delivery until Google Sheets is reconnected, the spreadsheet is repaired, or a successful test row confirms delivery.

Reconnect Google Sheets if Google reports revoked OAuth access. Choose a valid spreadsheet or tab again if the previous destination was deleted or Rooster no longer has access.

The Google Sheets integration works with:

  • Google Sheets spreadsheets in the connected Google account
  • Google Workspace spreadsheets shared with the connected account
  • Google Sheets formulas, filters, charts, and pivot tables built on appended rows
  • Google Apps Script automations triggered from spreadsheet updates
  • Looker Studio reports that use Google Sheets as a data source
  • Automation tools that watch Google Sheets rows, such as Zapier, Make, Pipedream, and n8n
  • CRMs, help desks, or reporting tools that import from Google Sheets
