Slack Integration
Send branded submission.created messages to a Slack channel selected during Slack OAuth.
Attributes
Setup
Use the Slack integration when you want form submission notifications in a Slack channel without manually handling webhook URLs.
- Open Integrations in the dashboard.
- Find Slack in Available.
- Click Connect.
- Approve the Rooster Slack app and choose the workspace and channel in Slack.
- Slack returns an incoming webhook to Rooster.
- Rooster stores that incoming webhook securely and redirects you back to Integrations.
- Open Manage to review the connected workspace and channel.
- Send a test message from the Slack settings dialog.
After Slack is connected, it appears in your account's connected integrations, but it only receives submissions from websites or hosted forms where you link it.
Link Slack To A Website Or Hosted Form
To send website submissions to Slack:
- Open Websites.
- Open the website action menu.
- Choose Link integration or View integration.
- Click Add integration if you are viewing existing links.
- Choose Slack from the dropdown.
- Review the Slack settings for that website, including submission details, hidden fields, allowlisted fields, and mention rules.
- Click Link integration.
The website must have a valid connected domain before Slack can be linked.
To send hosted form submissions to Slack:
- Open Form builder.
- Open the hosted form action menu.
- Choose Link integration or View integration.
- Click Add integration if you are viewing existing links.
- Choose Slack from the dropdown.
- Review the Slack settings for that hosted form, including submission details, hidden fields, allowlisted fields, and mention rules.
- Click Link integration.
The hosted form must be published before Slack can be linked.
Manage Or Remove Slack
Open Integrations, then click Manage Slack to review delivery health, edit account-level message settings, send a test message, reconnect or change the Slack channel, disable delivery, or disconnect Slack from your account.
From a website or hosted form's View integration modal, use the edit icon to change Slack settings only for that source. Use the delete icon to remove Slack from that source only.
Message Content
Slack messages are sent after a submission has been saved. A Slack delivery failure does not block the visitor's form submission.
When Show submission details in Slack is off, messages include safe metadata only:
- Form name
- Website name
- Source page
- Submitted time
- A dashboard link when available
When it is on, Rooster adds submitted field values dynamically. Long values are truncated, arrays and nested values are summarized, ignored file fields are represented as file counts or names, and very large submissions are shortened with a note to view the full submission in Rooster.
Privacy Controls
Slack settings support optional privacy controls:
- Hide fields by key or label prevents fields such as
password, token, secret, orssnfrom appearing in Slack. Common sensitive field names are hidden by default. - Allow only these fields creates an allowlist. When configured, Slack only displays matching field keys or labels, then still applies hidden-field rules.
- Mention rules can mention a Slack user or user group when a submitted field equals a configured value. Example:
inquiryType=urgent => <!subteam^GROUP_ID>. - View submission in Rooster opens the specific submission record with the matching form and submission selected.
Health And Retries
Rooster records Slack delivery attempts, response status codes, response time, short response previews, and failure reasons. Retryable failures are scheduled again with backoff. Repeated failures mark Slack unhealthy and can disable delivery until Slack is reconnected or a successful test confirms the connection is working again.
If Slack reports that the webhook is revoked or the selected channel is archived, Rooster stops using that connection and shows a dashboard warning.
Compatible Apps
The Slack integration works with:
- Slack workspaces where the Rooster Slack app is installed
- Public channels selected during OAuth
- Private channels selected during OAuth, when Slack allows the app to post there
- Shared operational channels for support, sales, lead intake, or incident triage
